Mercedes will reduce production at its largest factory

The SLS AMG is one of the numerous models Mercedes produced in Sindelfingen.

Daimler plans to reduce production at its largest factory. A source close to the dossier to the Reuters Agency has so said it. The reason is the more pronounced deterioration in sales in Europe and China.

All the production lines of the plant (the largest in the Group) Sindelfingen, near Stuttgart, would be affected. Currently, the company negotiates with trade unions to organize new work shifts. Mercedes-Benz aims to save one billion euros without resorting to layoffs. What's more, the company still wants to hire 250 people between now and 2014. even so, seems that the negotiations are not so simple, because according to the Stuttgarter Zeitung, Mercedes-Benz had to go to a mediator to resume negotiations. And Sindelfingen employs more than 8,000 people in the factory and also has 7,000 engineers. Sindelfingen produces almost half a million units a year (about 2,000 cars on average per day). In 2011, it produced 484.014 cars. Models produced there are the C class sedan, E-class, CLS, CL, S-class and the SLS AMG. Anecdotal way, made some other Maybach.

While in Europe, almost all brands have experienced a decline in their sales, including the premium, it is true that in China, Mercedes-Benz have not done as well as their rivals. The S class is sold especially evil, ensure employees to the German newspaper.

For Dieter Zetsche, part of the blame is the local distribution network. The truth is that Mercedes-Benz grew 3% in China, while BMW did in 38 percent and Audi by 24%.
